Coinciding with the exhibition of fine bindings titled âReflections of a Philosophical Voyagerâ, which will showcase the creative work of 18 Australian bookbinders, the Sutton Village Gallery will host a 3hr workshop run by master bookbinder, Joy Tonkin who will guide you through the steps to construct a 15th century leather journal, known as a âTegumentumâ limp binding. (Tegumentum comes from the Latin meaning âcoveringâ or âvestmentâ) The technique is practical and simple. The binding features a leather, or suede, cover, with many opportunities to be creative. You will come away with your own unique handmade leather journal and the knowledge to continue creating beautiful journals in your own time.
